My Lunch At Khmer's Family Restaurant

Our second day in Cambodia began early with the sunrise at Angkor Wat (which we missed!), and then we proceeded to enter Angkor Thom via the South Gate to visit Baphuon Temple and Terrace of the Elephants before making our way to Preah Khan and Ta Prohm.

By the time Jam, his friend and I left Ta Prohm, we were hungry as it was already past lunch time. Our driver Xiao He brought us to Khmer's Family Restaurant for lunch.

I have to admit I do not know where this restaurant is located and I could not even find it on the Internet. If any Cambodians reading this know the location of this restaurant, please let me know - thank you!

The restaurant had a high ceiling and was rather spacious and airy so it was quite comfortable despite the hot weather outside.

There were some nice pictures of Angkor Wat hanging on the brick wall.

We had this dish called samlor chy spicy - a kind of curry but it was not spicy to me. There were meat inside but I could not remember if we ordered pork, chicken or fish!

Another dish we had was fried lemongrass with beef. It was not bad!

Lastly, we had fried cashew nut with chicken. It was yummy!

Each of us had a coconut drink to quench our thirsts. It was a very suitable drink in the hot Cambodian weather!

Each of the dish above costs USD6 (RM18) which I thought was quite pricey. However, by then I had already accepted the fact that Cambodian food does not come cheap. Still, I love Cambodian cuisine and would not mind visiting Siem Reap again for its delicious food!

I'm intrigued with the Cambodian cuisine... how does it tastes like? I mean, we Filipinos are more into Sweet dishes while Indian are more into Spicy... so how about Cambodian?

i like the paintings on the wall, they look nice.. and surely add points to the theme and ambiance of the restaurant..

oh, the curry looks nice.. and i think most probably you ordered pork since you have two other dishes that were beef and chicken??
My recent post 11.08.2011 | 十處不同
the other two beef and chicken dishes looks quite the same, only different ingredients huh.. but i guess they should taste different albeit the same cooking style?? haha..

of course that's pricey, because i would think it's a restaurant "specially" for tourists, and they are overcharging the food.. those bear the commission the restaurant is going to pay your driver for bringing you there~~ :p

It must be a tourist center, that is why the higher price.. dont think locals will spend that much eating there.. or perhaps locals are charged cheaper? :)
Hungry.... =/
Places that tourists congregate to are always pricey. ;)
the food looks good. from what you said, taste good too. so pricey? what to do... now most of the places charge USD. so not surprise =3. but if it taste good why not right? O.o
Xiao He? How come sounds like a Chinese name? Was your driver Chinese? I heard food in Cambodia was supposed to be cheap.. doesn't seem so for your case eh? But as long as they're delicious, I guess it's fine! :)
Probably the price is meant for tourists. I know from my Cambodian friends that meals there are not expensive.

As long as it is edible, if it tastes good in a tourist place it is a miracle. :P many times I have eaten highly priced and worse food in many tourist destinations in other parts of the world.

i think this must be nearby the tourist spot hence the pricey price!

haven't really tried cambodian food before, does their curry tasted like our curry here? hehe
